Richmond Dental Attends ADA FDI World Dental Congress
When the theme of a trade show is “Be a part of something extraordinary,” that always sounds like a great fit for us at Richmond Dental and Medical. We were pleased to exhibit at the 2019 American Dental Association (ADA) FDI World Dental Congress earlier this month.
The 107th edition of the World Dental Congress took place at San Francisco’s Moscone Center from September 4-8. This year’s event celebrated the ADA’s 160th anniversary, as well as the 150th anniversary of one of the dental community’s oldest organizations, the San Francisco Dental Society.
The 2019 event was a joint production of the host ADA and FDI, the World Dental Federation, based in Switzerland. The 163,000-member American Dental Association exists to power the profession of dentistry and to assist its members in advancing the overall oral health of their patients. FDI is an international, membership-based organization that serves as the main representative body for more than 1 million dentists worldwide, active in some 200 National Dental Associations (like the ADA) and specialist groups in close to 130 countries. The FDI, a pioneer in the field of modern dentistry, will celebrate its 120th anniversary in 2020.
The ADA/FDI World Dental Congress featured continuing education courses, exhibitors, and entertainment spread across four action-packed days. One of the best features of the annual event is the New Dentist Conference, aimed at dental professionals who have graduated within the previous decade. The New Dentist Conference is an interactive experience designed especially for young dentists to learn more about multiple aspects of the profession and the types of resources available to dental professionals.
Keynote speakers included Dr. Miguel Stanley, who addressed the meeting with the question “Are consumers and technology driving the future of dentistry?” Dr. Marko Vujicic also keynoted the event with a lecture titled “The generational shift: 5 things dentists need to know about the changing dental patient”.
Richmond Dental and Medical enjoys exhibiting at ADA events, as they mark the premier annual gathering of the global dental community. Besides opportunities to network with well-known opinion leaders in dentistry, these events offer the World Dental Congress exhibition. There, attendees gather information on the newest products from companies like Richmond and learn about the latest innovations provided by the ever-evolving international dental industry represented at each event.
The 2019 joint meeting of the ADA and FDI was both special and rare, as the last time the two came together was more than two decades ago, at the 1996 congress in Orlando. Upcoming World Dental Congresses will take place in Shanghai (2020) and Sydney (2021).
