Since 1895, Richmond Dental and Medical has set the highest standards in the dental supply industry. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, we are proud to partner with another standard-setter in dentistry, the highly regarded Adams School of Dentistry at our home state’s flagship university, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Take a look at some of the highlights of 2019, our partnership’s biggest year yet.

The SHAC Endowment

2019 marked the second year of our sponsorship commitment to the SHAC Clinic, a student-run clinic, under the supervision of adjunct faculty, that serves the oral care needs of underserved communities in the school’s home of Chapel Hill and surrounding areas. This year, we were proud to underwrite signage for the weekly clinic, making SHAC even more accessible to the community.

Oral Cancer Walk

In March, we sponsored the Oral Cancer Walk, a fundraiser led by the UNC chapter of the Student National Dental Association. Profits from the walk fund lifesaving research and reduce the incidence of oral and oropharyngeal cancers in the U.S. population.

Alumni Golf Tournament

In September, Richmond sponsored the Alumni Golf Tournament in support of the Dental Foundation of North Carolina, and organization that benefits the Adams School in multiple ways. Today, the foundation awards more than $2 million dollars annually in scholarships, fellowships, and faculty professorships and awards, program support and facility updates.

Vendor Day

For the second year, we participated in the School of Dentistry’s Vendor Day, where we are able to provide product information to students and faculty. For 2019, we distributed samples and educational materials in reusable lunch bags that are quite popular among the attendees.

Participating vendors like Richmond Dental and Medical help fund the Spurgeon Student Government at the school.

Best of Dentistry Night

Richmond also sponsored a special evening in recognition of our state’s very best contributions to the global dental community. Held on October 18 in the Blue Zone of UNC’s historic Kenan Stadium, Best of Dentistry Night saw the Adams School’s dean, Scott DeRossi, honor alumni and NC dental professionals on behalf of the Dental Alumni Association and the Dental Foundation of North Carolina.

Miles for Smiles

On November 9, we are sponsoring the Miles for Smiles Cleft Palate Gallop 5K and fun Walk to support dental care and other needed services of patients at the UNC Craniofacial Center. Our donation, along with those of many others, will see that individuals who cannot afford these services will get the treatments they need.

Exchange for Smiles

Throughout the year, Richmond contributed to Exchange for Smiles, a joint initiative of the efforts of Operation Smile and the UNC Adams School of Dentistry. Exchanges for Smiles allows Adams students and specialists to provide comprehensive dental treatment to children born with cleft lips and palates in Nicaragua. During their last two missions two missions, the group successfully delivered dental treatment to over 500 patients, with a combined 1,250 dental procedures.

Gifts in Kind

Finally, we are honored throughout the year to donate Richmond Dental and Medical products that support clinical initiatives of the Adams School of Dentistry, both at home and abroad. These clinics include the aforementioned SHAC Clinic, the SNDA CAARE Clinic (also in Chapel Hill), as well as international pop-up clinics each summer in places like Malawi and Uganda. This year, we also supported the Hispanic Dental Association for its student trip to Mexico.

At Richmond Dental and Medical, we believe manufacturing elite dental supplies comes with great responsibility. Our growing partnership with the UNC Adams School of Dentistry enables our company to make a broader impact beyond our commercial business endeavors, providing us with multiple avenues of nurturing young dentists and supporting their efforts to serve communities domestically and internationally.
